Janet’s, a leading cultural retailer in Samoa, premiered its Airport Branch to invited guests on Thursday 10th of May during the formal opening of the fully upgraded Arrival Terminal at Faleolo International Airport Samoa. The new airport outlet presents an attractive and opportune space to showcase Samoan and Pacific made gifts to visitors to Samoa.
Janet’s Airport Outlet holds a convenient location at the center of the newly rebuilt Airport offering both arriving and departing visitors and members of the public access to Cultural gifts.
Christopher Sablan, Managing Director for Janet’s noted that customers will be well served by the new branch. “Visitors to Samoa generally find that they have much to do taking in Samoa’s popular landmarks, resorts and beaches. Often they won’t have much time to shop for mementos or gifts for family back home so Janet’s Airport Outlet gives them that extra reassurance that they’ll be able to collect those important gifts and experience Samoan artistry before leaving our beautiful shores.”
Christopher also noted that the new outlet offered convenience not only for visitors but also for local clientele. “We all take pride in our local productions and brands and gifting to our visiting friends and relatives is very important; sharing our culture is something we all take pride in”.
Janet’s Airport Design
Janet’s Airport interior was designed by Lisha Sablan and outfitted by VM Joinery and was a particularly important project for her and her team. “Samoa’s new airport is special in that so many cultural motifs and traditional flourishes were implemented in the building design. Visitors will come to enjoy not only how much more functional the new airport is but also the form and design of it.
“In designing our new Janet’s space I took inspiration from this overall idea highlighting form and function. Trusting Janet’s to occupy a prominent space, the Samoa Airport Authority was very particular that we present something special to both welcome and farewell visitors. We complimented the earthy tones of the Airport building with a clean white interior for Janet’s, this accentuates the vibrant pacific colors of our Cultural gifts and highlights the creativity of our people”.
Lisha Sablan, noted the necessity of incorporating Samoan motifs into the design in order to “inspire visitors and showcase our cultural pride”.
Samoa the Gateway to the Pacific
Janet’s recently celebrated its 29th Anniversary and according to its founder Janet Sablan “the opening reinforces our unceasing belief in the sustainable growth of tourism in Samoa. And important to this growth involves supporting our cultural artists and industries. Above all else, people visit Samoa for our unique Samoan culture and we have always seen Janet’s as playing a role in supporting and promoting our culture to the world”.
Customers can expect to see Janet’s popular range of goods and brands to be housed at the airport shop along with a number of new items created especially for the airport store, with more to follow in the near future.
Welcoming the World to Samoa
Lisha Sablan made special note of the input and assistance of Samoa Airport Authority, “in particular General Manager Magele Hoe Viali who was onboard from the beginning. Project Manager Chris Soti and his team were always very helpful and worked hard even up to the opening date to ensure everything was ready. And Shanghai Construction and their efforts will have an ongoing positive effect in upgrading the infrastructure and overall look of our airport.
