Janet’s of Samoa, a leading specialty Pacific retailer in Samoa announced a complete makeover of its website, janetssamoa.com

According to Manager Christopher Sablan the new Janet’s site features a completely new visual design, offers better navigation, higher quality product imagery, and easier sharing options for social media and will feature ongoing original content from Janet’s via blog and gallery sections.


Built on Customer needs

Sablan noted that the main motivation of the redesign was in considering customer and user needs. The Janet’s team collected and used feedback from customers in redesigning both the computer, mobile and tablet versions of the website. “We made sure the website looks great on whatever device our visitors are using”, Sablan said.

“We actively listen to suggestions and opinion from customers of Janet’s and users of the website. In many ways this is a site built by our customers and online fans. We are looking to launch a lot more original content from the site, not only marketing and promotional but educational and informative content”, Sablan noted.

“Our approach to design and content is to create something different, something that makes people stop and take time out of their busy lives, something that makes them smile and appreciate the beauty of Samoa and the Pacific.”.

Sablan emphasised that their web team were delighted to regularly receive email from people interested in Samoa and its culture from all over the world. “A lot of the emails we get are from people asking questions about Samoa and wanting to know more about the culture and way of life. The pacific creative arts and crafts are a tremendous way to communicate the beauty and uniqueness of Samoa and the Pacific.”


Made Of Samoa and the Pacific

From a business point of view, Sablan noted that the best part of the redesign and launch is that customers have an easier way to communicate their needs and access products and share it with their friends.

Sablan noted the importance of storytelling saying that “people aren’t just looking for marketing and buzz alone; they want relevant and true stories. And Samoa and the Pacific have numerous to tell. One of Janet’s most important stories is that our core products are Made in Samoa, by local artists and benefit the local culture and people.”

Sablan noted that the appearance of Pacific designs in the wider fashion and apparel industry was a positive sign saying that “we see everywhere in the world designers and artists being influenced by Samoan and Pacific Designs. Just as we’ve been influenced by outside designs and artwork. But it is up to us Pacific designers and artists to tell our own stories, or people will tell them for us”.


The Importance of a Strong Online Presence

Janet’s encourages pacific businesses and artists with overseas aspirations and markets to invest time in having a good online presence saying that it is “not a luxury or add-on it but an absolute necessity as people are mobile now and want relevant and timely information about their interests”. He also advised aspiring or current artists to get online and that there were numerous avenues available for them to do this noting that Samoa Tourism Authority was another organisation which has done much to facilitate this.

Sablan went on to invite any young crafts people and artists to bring their works and productions to Janet’s saying that  there are many talented artists who are held back by their lack of market knowledge of consumer trends which Janet’s is happy to address for them.


Celebrating 25 years Campaign

Janetssamoa.com Website Redesign and Launch are part of a larger campaign by Janet’s which is celebrating its 25th year of operation in Samoa in June of 2014.

“We are really excited about this year and are planning some fun things for the coming months, one of them is our redesigned website, also we’d like to focus on publishing more of our original content with a focus on educational and informative pieces and we will be introducing new products and design spaces soon.

“This is only possible through the support from our business friends and customers in Samoa and abroad. We are humbled and grateful.”

Founded in Apia, Samoa in 1989 by Janet Moors Sablan, Janet’s offers a wide selection of arts and crafts, clothing, home ware, beauty products, footwear and accessories from Samoa and the Pacific.

    Very proud of Janet’s history over its first 25 years. Watched with pride your Mom and Dad starting and growing Janet’s over the years. And then you and LishaAnn joining to help further grow Janet’s to what it is now – The Premier Shop – where Samoa, and now the World shops, with this beautiful and tastefully designed website.

    Janet’s is also a wonderful example of how to plan for management succession in a family company.

We’ve been very lucky to have so many of the people we started with still with the Janet’s family and I think this is really important as this allowed us to really create our own style and voice. And we’re fortunate to have the best people over the years who have supported us both locally in Samoa and overseas. We’re very excited about this year and the future, and I we are not the only ones. I think Samoa and the Pacific is culturally going through a kind of Renaissance and rebirth. And we are one of the many who take pride is representing the Pacific.
